Pandora Buck, who runs The Active Clinic in Great Yarmouth, began running with Great Yarmouth Road Runners when she was 50. In December last year she was advised by e mail that she had won a competition & had a place to run in the London Marathon. Pandora, or Pandy, as she is known to many of her friends, ignored the e mail for a few weeks, thinking it was a hoax! However, she did have a place to run in the marathon, with the privilege of starting in the green area alongside celebrity competitors. The prize also included overnight accommodation & her friends were able to sit in the grandstand on The Mall to watch her cross the finish line.
The scorching weather was the hottest on record for a London Marathon. Pandora says that it was hard going, but the fact that she was raising funds towards building a hospice in Gorleston helped keep her going, along with tremendous support from friends in her running club who lined the route, waving plastic palm trees so she could spot them.
Pandora completed the gruelling 26.2 miles in a brilliant time of 5 hours & 31 minutes & has raised an awesome £2002.78 in sponsorship. Thank you to everybody who sponsored Pandy & of course a massive well done to Pandy on this brilliant achievement.
